Which files can the viewer read?

XRechnung in both syntaxes – CII (UN/CEFACT) and UBL, as used by public-sector portals and Peppol – as well as ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs with embedded XML. Credit notes, corrected invoices and progress invoices are displayed too.

Why does my invoice look like code?

An XRechnung is deliberately a pure data format for machines. Humans need a viewer — that is what this page does. Important: keep the original XML file unchanged; it is the legally relevant document.
